The purpose of this project is to create a garment of wearable art. I want to use this artwork to bring attention to the destruction of our oceans. It is based on a stormy sea, which is a powerful piece of artwork in its own right. I intend to focus on creating a garment fit for a siren, to show the wrath of the ocean against those who abuse her. It will be dark and mysterious. My experimental focus for this project is acrylic; I will use it in two ways, one to represent a wave crashing against the rocks and the other to represent the plastic that is choking our oceans. My goal is to learn how to shape a sheet of acrylic into the form of a wave braking on a cliffside. I have never worked with acrylic before so this will be a great learning experience for me and ideally, I will be able to use it more in my future career as well.

            My intention is to create a design that looks more like a crashing wave than it does fabric. I want to represent the textures of the water, the slick parts, the foam, and the depth; I also want to represent rage and power. The world’s oceans are dying and must be saved, attention needs to be brought to what is happening and I intend to do just that. I want to merge art and fashion into an original creation; I believe that art and creation need to be more visible in fashion; fast fashion is not good enough anymore and I want to break the mold.
